Free: Try Claude With No Commitment
The Free plan costs nothing and runs on the web, desktop, and mobile apps. You get chat, web search, file analysis, code execution, extended thinking, and connections to Google Workspace, Slack, and remote MCP tools. It is enough to judge whether Claude helps your work.
Two limits define Free. Usage is capped at a small daily allotment that resets on a rolling window, and you cannot use Claude Code, the terminal and IDE coding agent. Treat Free as a trial, not a workhorse.
Pro: The Default for Individual Professionals
Pro is Anthropic's individual paid tier and is available with monthly or annual billing. It raises usage limits and provides access to paid-plan tools and models, subject to Anthropic's current plan documentation.
For a single knowledge worker — a consultant, developer, analyst, or marketer — Pro is the right default. The one caveat is heavy automation. Max: For Heavy Daily Users and Claude Code
Max offers higher usage allocations than Pro in two tiers. It is designed for individuals whose sustained coding or document work exceeds Pro limits. Compare the current monthly price, included usage, and any weekly caps in Anthropic's account documentation before upgrading.
Max primarily changes capacity, not governance. A developer running long Claude Code sessions or an analyst processing large document sets should benchmark completed work and throttling on Pro before paying for additional capacity.
Team: Shared Billing and Admin for Small Companies
Team is Claude's shared business plan and currently requires at least two members. It offers Standard and Premium seats with monthly and annual billing options; current monthly list prices are shown in the table. Seat capabilities and usage differ, and organizations can assign the appropriate seat type to each user.
Team adds what individuals do not need: central billing, an admin console, single sign-on, enterprise search across your workspace, and a default policy that your content does not train Anthropic's models. For a 10-to-50-person company standardizing on Claude, Team is usually the answer.
Enterprise: Security, SSO, and Compliance at Scale
Enterprise is for organizations with stronger identity, audit, security, or contractual requirements. Current usage-based plans combine seat access with metered usage, while larger deployments may use negotiated terms. Available controls can include role-based access, SCIM, audit logs, IP allowlisting, and spend management; confirm the purchased configuration.
HIPAA-ready is not a blanket property of every Enterprise feature. It requires an eligible Enterprise plan, an accepted BAA, appropriate customer configuration, and use only of covered features. Anthropic's current BAA guidance says Team is not eligible and Cowork is not covered, so regulated workflows need a feature-by-feature review.
How to Choose the Right Claude Plan
Match the plan to the work, not the logo. Inventory the users, workloads, expected usage, data classifications, identity requirements, and features first. Then pilot a small seat mix and measure capacity before expanding.
A typical evaluation might use Team Standard for governed general use, reserve Premium for measured high-usage roles, and evaluate Enterprise when identity, audit, or contractual requirements demand it. A simple rule covers most cases. One person: Pro, or Max if you live in Claude Code. A small company: Team, with Premium seats for power users. Security, Data Privacy, and Compliance
Plan choice is also a security decision. Anthropic states that business-plan content is not used for model training by default. Enterprise can add SSO, SCIM, audit logs, and other controls, but availability and compliance eligibility remain plan-, feature-, and configuration-specific. Anthropic documents its security posture in the Anthropic Trust Center. Before connecting sensitive systems, confirm data flows, retention, sub-processors, permissions, and contract terms.
